York Racecourse
York does not believe in resting on its laurels and a perfectly adequate racecourse has been upgraded in recent years with a number of redevelopments that have done nothing to dent the course's friendly feel.
York opens with the Dante meeting in May, which is a strong meeting and then the course stages a number of quality meetings through the summer before the racing planet turns up there in August for its fine Ebor meeting.
At that time of year, accommodation in the tourist-filled city can be hard to find, so plenty of pre-planning is needed but make sure you visit, because the locals turn out in force to enjoy the party and the Champagne is the best value in the country.
