Chester Racecourse
There probably isn't a better success story in British racing than Chester. Expertly marketed, Chester remains one of the hottest tickets in the sport.
Squeezed into the shadows of the old Roman city walls, the course is less than a mile round and as a result the draw can be a big advantage. Low is beautiful here!
As a result of its tight turns, exciting racing is all but guaranteed on the Roodee and with a tightly packed crowd hanging from every vantage point there is also always plenty of noise.
The highlight of Chester's 12-day season is the meeting in early May, which brings together some important Group races and exciting handicaps, not least the two-and-a-quarter mile Chester Cup which requires a large field to spin round the course enough times to make them dizzy!
And once the racing is over, the party does not move that far as the first of the city's bars and restaurants is no more than a few hundred yards from the gates.
