How to play craps

Today, the game of Craps enjoys tremendous popularity. Craps tables in Las Vegas casinos are by far the most crowded ones. Surprisingly enough, tracing the game's origins is a difficult task to accomplish. The modern version of the game, however, was brought to America by Bernard Xavier Philippe de Marigny de Mandeville, a prominent politician and ardent gambler. To make a long story short, we aim to teach you how to play Craps, one of the most exciting games casinos offer.

How to play craps-The very basics:

In Craps, gamblers wager money against the house on the outcome of either a single roll or a series of rolls of two dice. The game is played with one or more players. When there is more than one participant in a game, players take turns shooting the dice. The player rolling the dice is referred to as the 'shooter.' Craps is played in rounds, with the first roll of each new round called the 'come-out roll.' In general terms, learning how to play Craps is relatively easy.

The gambling action:

On the come-out roll, if the total of the dice stands at 7, 11, 2, 3 or 12, the round is ended at once and the roller must make a new come-out roll. A total of 2, 3 or 12 is called 'craps' and a total of 7 or 11 is referred to as a 'win' or a 'natural.' Any other number rolled on the come-out roll is called a 'point.' When a player is successful in making a point, then he must roll the dice again until he either nabs a 7 or a point appears once more. If the shooter rolls a point again, the gambling round is terminated with the game starting anew.

An occurrence in which the shooter catches a 7 instead of the point is called a 'seven-out.' In such a case, the gaming round ends and the dice are passed to a player on the left.

Types of bets:

The game features a wide range of bets. A player who seeks to learn how to play Craps must become familiar with at least the most popular ones:

Pass Line Bet- A player wins if the first roll is a natural, and loses if it happens to be craps. If he makes a point, he must hit it again before a 7 appears in order to win. If a 7 is rolled before a point, the player loses.

Don't Pass Line Bet- It is the opposite of Pass Line Bet. If the first roll of the dice happens to be a natural, the shooter loses. If a player rolls a point, he must catch a 7 before another point comes to become a winner. If a point rolls before the 7, he loses.

Odds on Pass Line Bet- After a player rolls a point, he has the option to make another wager by taking odds. Typically, different payouts are set for each point. For example, rolling a 4 or 10 pays 2:1. Winning is only possible, if the point appears before a 7.

Come Bet- This one actually has the same rules as the Pass Line Bet. The only difference is in the fact that a player is allowed to make this wager after a point on the pass line has been hit.

Don't Come Bet- This one is the opposite of Come Bet. Once the come-out point is rolled, a player could win if he gets a 2 or 3 and lose if he gets a 7 or 11.

Odds on Come Bet- These are the same as the Odds on Pass Line except that the odds taken are on the Come Bet.

Craps etiquette:

There is a basic code of behavior Craps players are required to comply with. For instance, players are supposed to throw the dice with one hand. The only permitted way to change hands when rolling the dice, is to set them on the table, let them go, and then grab them with the other hand. Another example of proper behavior in Craps is, that players are expected to remove their hands from the table area when the shooter is ready to throw the dice. Otherwise, they might interfere with the dice.

The above are the basic rules on how to play Craps. Remember, all you need is Luck!
