Blackjack Terminology

play
21 When the sum of the values of the cards you've been dealt totals twenty one. 21, however, is not necessarily a Blackjack hand. For example, a Nine of Spades, a Four of Diamonds and an Eight of Clubs equals 21, but is not the Ace - 10 card combination required for a Blackjack. Note: Blackjack always beats a hand with a value of 21.

Advanced Blackjack Strategy Table
A table used during AutoPlay. The strategy table enables you to define your own game strategies, or you can use the default strategy. The default strategy is designed to benefit the Player.

Blackjack
When a hand contains an Ace and a card with a value of 10 it is a Blackjack. Blackjack is the strongest hand, and automatically Stands. It cannot be beaten, only matched. If you split a pair of Aces and then draw a card with a value of 10, this is not Blackjack, although it has a value of 21. Note: This rule also applies to splitting pairs of cards with a value of 10.

Bust
If your hand value exceeds the value of 21, your hand is bust. The hand is over and you lose your bet.

Denomination
The face value on the cards. Example: Ace, King, Queen, Jack and from 2 to 10. Note: A Jack, Queen or King have the value of 10, and the Ace has the value of either 1 or 11.

Double Down
A side bet placed on the Blackjack table that your hand will beat the Dealer’s. Only one more card is drawn and your hand automatically stands. In Multi-hand Atlantic City Blackjack you can Double Down on any combination. To Double Down costs the same as your original bet amount. If you win, you are paid double your total bet amount. The win amount is equal to your original bet multiplied by four.

Hit
When you request another card from the shoe it is called a Hit. You can request another card when your hand is not strong enough to beat the Dealer’s hand. You are dealt one card. Note: You can request another card when your hand does not equal or exceed the value of 21.

Hole Card
The Dealer is dealt two cards, one face-up and one face-down. The face-down card is called the Hole Card.

Insurance
A side bet placed against the possibility of the Dealer getting Blackjack. You can take Insurance if the Dealer’s first card is an Ace. An Insurance bet costs half your original bet. Note: If the Dealer does not have a Blackjack, the Insurance bet is removed from the table. The cost of the Insurance bet is deducted from your credit balance. The game continues. If the Dealer has Blackjack, the Insurance bet is paid out at odds of 2:1.

Push
When your hand and the Dealer’s hand tie, this is called a Push. You are paid your original bet.

Split
You can Split two cards with the same Denomination or Value, such as a Queen and a Ten, or two Fours. Your hand is divided into two separate hands and a bet equal to your original bet is placed on the second hand. Therefore, your bet is doubled. A new card is dealt to each hand and you play these hands as normal. Note: You can Split a maximum of 3 times, equaling 4 hands. This rule excludes Aces. Aces are only Split once. If you split a pair of Aces and then draw a card with a value of 10, this is not Blackjack, although it has a value of 21. Note: This rule also applies to splitting pairs of cards with a value of 10.

Stand
When you are satisfied with the value of your hand and do not want to draw any more cards, you Stand. This ends the play of your hand. The Dealer plays their hand and all hands are compared.

Surrender
You can give up half your original bet amount for the privilege of surrendering and not play out a hand.

Value
The numerical value of a card. Example: Jack, Queen and King have the value of 10. The Ace card has a value of either 1 or 11.
