FOBT News
Gala Group chief executive Neil Goulden has called the scrutiny committees recommendation to allow FOBTs in just casinos and betting shops as ludicrous.
Despite culture secretary Tessa Jowells revelation that the DCMS wants to allow the product in bingo clubs and adult gaming centres, the scrutiny committee said that they should not be in the interest of controlling problem gambling.
Goulden said: We were of the view that if they said that they were allowing FOBTs in LBOs and casinos then its ludicrous that they dont then allow them in bingo clubs and adult-only entertainment centres. Why should betting offices and casinos have them and not bingo clubs and gaming centres?
According to Goulden, Gala Bingo might not even use the products in its clubs if it was allowed to do so, but would like the opportunity anyway. He added: As the FOBT payout is limited to 500 they would in our mind be a jackpot machine. Were only allowed four of them so our view would be do we allow a fixed odds betting terminal in or do we stick with the jackpot machines that we currently have. We would like to have the flexibility to maybe have a mixture.
