World Series of Backgammon launches
The third onseason of the World Series of Backgammon is launching this week. The launch event will be held at the Palm Beach Casino in Cannes from 21 to 26 July. Later events will be held in Prague in September, and London in October.
During the events the players will build up points. After the three events have finished, the highest scorers will qualify for the semi-finals. The final will be held at the Loose Cannon Poker Club in London, with €320,000 at stake.
The new online platform where the semi-finals will be played will be launched on 24 July. It will feature information and news, and will allow players to play head to head for cash. Players will also be able to take part in qualifying tournaments for live events.
Andy Bell, the managing director and founder of WSOB, said that they have built on “a number of new partnerships”, and that the website will attract “potentially thousands” of backgammon players. He also highlighted how the tournament now incorporates online play, live play and TV deals with ESPN and Eurosport.
