WPT announces new event in Slovakia
The WPT has announced a new tournament event in Eastern Europe. The event will be held at the Herna Golden Vegas Casino in Bratislava, Slovakia, from August 31st to September 4th 2009. It will form part of the Central European Summer Poker Championship.
The announcement of the new event follows an agreement between the WTP and the Slovak Poker Sport Federation. It will be a €4,400 deep-stack event, the first of its kind in Eastern Europe. The announcement suggests that the WTP is trying to seriously compete with the European Poker Tour on the continent.
The tournament marks the fifth venue for the WPT held outside of the United States. It has already hosted tournaments in Spain and Italy, and will host tournaments in Cyprus and Morocco later this year.
This will be the biggest ever poker tournament in Slovakia. The WTP is hoping that it can increase its popularity in the Eastern European region and introduce more fans to the game. If the event is a success it could signal an increase in the number of tournaments held across the continent in the future.
