Spain remain World Cup favorites after mid-week win
Spain have reconfirmed to the world that they are the favorites to win this summer’s World Cup in South Africa with a convincing win over France in a mid-week friendly. France were soundly beaten 2-0 on Wednesday March 3 with goals by David Villa and Sergio Ramos showing just what this devastating team are capable of.
Following the match, the odds of Spain winning the World Cup were 4/1 at most online betting platforms. This puts them above Brazil at 5/1, who beat Ireland on Wednesday, and England at 6/1, who suggested that they would put up a good fight with a comfortable 3-1 win over African champions Egypt.
Spain also held onto their position at the top of the FIFA world rankings, which were updated just before the match on Wednesday, and no one would doubt that that’s exactly where they belong.
So can anyone stop Spain? Anything can happen in a World Cup, as we all know, but with a team comprising Fernando Torres, David Villa, Andres Iniesta, and David Silva, who would want to bet against them? They have the undisputed best midfield in the world and strikers who just can’t stop scoring. The only real question is whether they will be able to cope with the pressure of being the tournament favorites. In less than 100 days we will find out.
