Paddy Power tries to win Tiger Woods’ endorsement

Tiger Woods has been in the papers more than he would have liked recently due to the allegations of extramarital affairs in recent months. As a result, he has lost many important endorsements worth millions of pounds. But now Paddy Power, which runs various online gambling operations, has offered him a sponsorship deal that has been reported as $75 million for a five-year deal.

Woods’ representatives have been quick to announce that Woods has rejected the deal. This may be surprising to some seeing as he has been badly affected through his recent loss of some of his main endorsements, including Gatorade and Gillette. Undeterred, Paddy Power is now claiming that it will put in a better offer to try and win him over to support their brand.

The news was announced when a Paddy Power spokesman told Golfweek that the offer had been made. He claimed that the online gambling group had begun negotiations with his agents, IMG (International Management Group). The deal is supposed to have comprised an upfront payment of $5 million, followed by further payments over the course of the deal.

However, IMG have rejected these claims saying that they are not in negotiations with Paddy Power. The PGA has also claimed that players cannot have any association with gambling operators. We’ll have to see whether this is enough to put Paddy Power off submitting another improved offer.
