FreemantleMedia join forces with MGM to develop new games
Entertainment company FreemantleMedia has just announced details of a new deal with MGM to develop a number of casino-style games based on major films. The FreemantleMedia Gaming division has signed the deal with the Hollywood company, and the games will be available to players in a number of countries outside of the US.
Hollywood classics such as ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’ and ‘Robocop’ are amongst the films that will be made into games. The head of ventures at FreemantleMedia, Paul Kanareck, said that the deal demonstrates the company’s desire “to become a leading publisher of branded games”.
FreemantleMedia has already made similar moves before by converting some of its own TV shows, including The X Factor, into online games. It is now hoping to expand into the gaming market by capitalising on the success of the well-known film brands.
The executive producer of MGM, David Davis, said that the company had some of the most popular film brands in the world in its library, and called FreemantleMedia a company “at the top of its game when it comes to brand extension”.
