Asian Poker Tour’s popularity increases
The Asian Poker Tour (APT) recently saw a rise in popularity at the main event of the Macau Festival, held in the StarWorld Hotel and Casino. 326 players took part in the event, up 20 percent from 257 players last year.
The players competed for a total prize pool of $1,408,832 over the 12-day event, and the winner of the main event got to take home $391,592 in winnings. The chief executive officer for the APT, Chris Parker, said that they had predicted 300 runners this year, and they are now “delighted” with the turnout, “especially in the current economic climate”.
He was said that it vindicated the decision to make the festival into a 12-day event, and expressed his pleasure at seeing so many Asian players competing. The event included well-known players such as JC Tran, Quinn Do and Steve Sung.
There was also an added element of excitement as on the first day of the event filming started for the new film ‘Poker King’, which will be the first poker film in Chinese. It is hoped that, if successful, it will help to popularise the sport in Asia.
