Psychological Aspects of Gambling

Psychological Aspects of Gambling - Addiction is a Form of Mental Illness

The psychological aspects of gambling affect about one in ten people who frequent casino parlours or who gamble online.  In contrast to that statistic, nine of ten players play the casino games for pure enjoyment and they have no psychological issues with either gambling in land casinos or online in one of the casino gambling websites.  The 90 percent that have no gambling issues play for the fun and the relaxation that the games afford.  The other 10 percent, however, have issues of a deep psychological nature that require professional treatment.

Gambling addiction is recognized as a form of mental illness, and it can be treated like any other form of mental illness.  The issues are simply the inability to shut off the gambling faucet.  Those of us who gamble as a matter of recreational enjoyment set limits on our wagering.  Those in the throes of a gambling addiction can not and will not stop.  The example that comes to mind is the online gambler who does not know when to quit for the day.  Instead, these inveterate gamblers choose to extend their credit because they sincerely believe that the next big win – the one that will settle all the debts is the next roll of the dice or spin of the wheel.  They firmly believe that the bad luck will turn on their next bet.

Psychological Aspects of Gambling - You Can Lose It All

There are many people in the world in which we live in today who gamble because they could use the extra money.  These people are generally hard working people who put aside a small part of their salaries for the recreational diversions of gambling.  For these folks, gambling is money spent on their recreational enjoyment and not because they are compelled by a deeply rooted psychological force to gamble.  For those 90% of us, we know when to stop.  For the other 10% caught in the throes of an addiction, they need to seek help before they destroy their families and their lives.

In Europe, the majority of those suffering psychological aspects of gambling are pensioners for whom gambling represents a chance to move up in society with one spin of the wheel.  Unfortunately, the chances of one of these people hitting a jackpot and elevating his or her life are few and far between.  It is up to those close to these people to ensure that they receive the professional assistance that their condition warrants, before suicide becomes a viable option.  You should do your best to help these people seek treatment for their problem with the psychological aspects of gambling.
